2017 International Orthodox Music Conference Announced
Joensuu, Finland - The Seventh International Conference of the International Society for Orthodox Church Music (ISOCM) will be held on 6–11 June 2017, at the Joensuu Campus University of Eastern Finland. Following the huge success of the Sixth Conference in 2015, in which the Society's tenth anniversary was celebrated, the Society enters this second decade of existence with the theme “Music and Liturgy.”
“A theme of this wide scope gives the opportunity for researchers and church musicians to give presentations both extremely detailed and very wide-ranging in character,” said Father Ivan Moody, ISOCM board chairman, noting, “This has always been our aim, and as may be seen in the published volumes of proceedings from our previous conferences.”
The Society hopes that the 2017 conference will be a meeting point for church musicians - chanters, choir directors, composers - and scholars, and that it will be spiritually and socially uplifting.
A call for papers will be forthcoming in September 2016 when further information will be available on the ISOCM website.
