that will be held at the University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu, 12–18 June 2023.

The organizers invite proposals for presentations dealing with different aspects of the general theme: “Church Music, Food and Nourishment”.
Presentation topics or areas of exploration include:

Church music and hymnography and the execution thereof as spiritual and/or physical nourishment

The materiality of spiritual nourishment: Holy Communion as a physical manifestation of the nourishment of the spirit
-
Food metaphors in hymnography
-
Fast and feast in church music and hymnography
-
Related questions dealing with Eastern traditions of a liturgical or paraliturgical kind, for example, the kolyva used at memorials for the departed, the Holy Supper served in some traditions at Christmas, artoklasia (litiya), Paschal Artos, the blessing of fruits, and Vasilopita

The understanding of the nourishment provided by food and drink as parallel to that provided by the composition or intoning of spiritual/liturgical texts

Local traditions and transmissions

Submission of abstracts

giving a presentation of 20 minutes or

presenting a poster,
please submit an abstract of 250 words by 31 January 2023 using our online abstract submission form.
The conference will take place physically, and we encourage everyone to attend in Joensuu. However, we acknowledge possible future challenges in international travel, and are prepared to accommodate a limited number of online presentations in the programme of the conference.
The language of the conference is English.
Articles based on the works presented in the conference will be published in the Journal of the ISOCM. It is expected that all presenters submit their papers either for the section of peer-reviewed articles or for the section of conference papers in time for the publication process.
Proposals must be submitted by 31 January 2023. Notifications of acceptance will be sent by 28 February 2023, and conference registration will be open 1 February–31 March 2023. Further information will be made available here on the conference webpages.
